What’s Love got to do with it anyway?

The word “love” can be so intoxicating its true meaning can be lost in the utterance of the words, merely symbols we agreed upon. For the meaning of love could never be enlightened but only felt from within. The true meaning would be lost by words. One might look for love to be loved; you’ll never find it, not really. Love comes from within, only from you. Just as happiness and joy, God, lives inside us!

So what is my point of all this you ask? The fact is we all have the power to do whatever, we desire: lose weight, turn back the aging process, write a book, or perhaps become an artist.

People often tell me how difficult it is to exercise or eat the right kinds of food to become healthy, fit and have well-being. No matter how hard I try, I always fail to reach my goal, or I just give up before I reach it. I listen to that voice inside me, and it tells me I can’t do it. I’m lazy or busy, how could I possibly do anything right?

Look into a mirror, into your eyes and tell yourself out loud, I love (YOUR NAME).
It’s not easy, is it? Very few people can, because we all live in fear to some degree. Some more, some less, but we all live in fear. It’s these fears that stop us in our tracks, from doing what we want to do.

Here is one way to overcome your fear: You execute deliverables one day at a time. Take steps, small steps, until you can start to run. You might stumble from time to time, but you don’t care! Get up and start over because you’re not listening to that stupid voice anymore, are you? And before you know it you’re racing toward your goal — and wow! You did it.

I tell you this, if you believe it, it shall be done! Stop listening to the voice who lies to you. The less you believe in the voice from within, the voice will weaken. You must practice, practice, and practice! It sounds simple but it’s not easy; that’s why you must practice each day until you master it, and practice some more.

You have the answers but because we were blinded, we’ve forgotten how to think outside the box, so we may have some sense of unity and belong to society. You can live in joy if you choose to do so, it’s your right, and you just have to want to. Believe it or not!

Take Charge

It is no wonder most people are confused about their diet, fitness and well being!  Information can be so misleading that it’s easy to become confused and give up. Especially when we are not held accountable for the choices we make – and this includes me as well. I believe that the truth needs to be told — with compassion — but it should be told!   When issues are danced around simply because it is the belief no one will listen and follow up, the truth gets lost, and so does our accountability for our choices.

What really motivates you?  For me, it’s when I’m able to base my decision on sound and clear information. Not from a so-called Food Guru who simply wants to sell me his/her e-books!

Fat — This is a big one.  I feel the dietary industries do a great injustice on this subject. We are told there is good fat and yes, bad fat.  Personally, I believe that FAT is FAT! It is suggested that we eat no more than 30% fat in our daily diet, because as it stands now the average fat intake is 50% to 55%. That is a Big Fat Lie! We should not consume any more than 6% to 10% of fat, (good or bad) in our diet. The reason we’re told otherwise? The governing bodies (The World Health Organization, the U.S. National Academy Institute of Medicine and the Natural Research Council all agree that consuming  10% of your total calories as fat  is sufficient to live a healthy life). Would have us believe that we would not follow these guidelines. So they teach us as though we are children, and maybe we just might eat a little less fat, and it will be less of a problem for those concerned. As for some raw food leaders, they want to sell us on the idea that if we eat the good fat it’s OK.  Why? The taste will make us feel as though we’re eating the foods we’ve always eaten! (Hey, do I have a great recipe book for you!)

The fact is, eating too much fat is not healthy, and that’s the upshot.  Google “fat” and see what you come up with.   I prefer that you discover the information for yourself and not rely on others. You’ll always be blind, unless you open your eyes. You know more than you give yourself credit for!

Fitness News from Black Men’s Magazine

BY MATTHEW GRACE KEEPING IT SIMPLE REAL MEN LIKE IT RAW! Hey you, reader…yeah you…with the magazine in your hand. Have I got news for you! Are you someone who is fed up with the barrage of information, miss-information and just plain lies concerning health and nutrition? How would you like to cut through all the nonsense and confusion and find a way to eat that makes complete sense and will provide you with all the health, energy and vitality you could ever wish for? Also, the quickest, safest and most cost effective way to lose weight and return your body back to its natural weight.
I know what you’re thinking, “Yeah right, what’s the catch and how much does it cost?” I don’t blame you. I am not selling any powders, pills, or magic potions, just trying to re-mind you of what you already know. Deep beneath the morass of nutritional propaganda we have been bombarded with since our birth, health is really a simple issue.
There is no need for all the confusion that exists in the nutritional arena. The confusion is created by our relentless human compulsion for the “quick fix,” and the “easy” way out. If you want things to be truly difficult in your life keep seeking the easy way.
Companies are falling over each other to come out with the latest, high tech supplements and “energy drinks.” Many of which are extremely taxing to the body and devoid of any assimilable nutrients. Every year a new vitamin, mineral or amino acid is touted as the answer to all our health problems. It is an unfortunate human trait to try to get something for nothing, i.e. “exercise in a bottle,” “a great body in just six minutes a day,” “become a millionaire working just three hours a week,” etc. This form of behavior simply creates more problems. It is a universal law that you cannot get something for nothing, yet the madness ensues.
Nature is a wonderful teacher rich with invaluable wisdom and guidance for our benefit. Nature is the outer equivalent of that little voice inside us that always knows what’s right.
Let’s get to the point. Cooking destroys food and all the intrinsic nourishment and vitality nature has provided for us. Enzymes are destroyed in any food cooked over 104 degrees Fahrenheit. Enzymes are responsible for an endless array of vital bodily functions. The destruction of these enzymes wreaks havoc on every metabolic, digestive and assimilated functions and a body completely devoid of these enzymes will soon perish. This is why any fever over 104 degrees can be fatal. Cooked foods create mucus and an acid condition in the body. The more cooked and processed a food is, the more difficult it is for the body to digest it. (Cooking also destroys and coagulates amino acids, the building blocks of protein.)
There are two types of enzymes — endogenous and exogenous. Those that are already in the body and those that we get from outside the body in the foods we eat. If the body is devoid of exogenous enzymes it is forced to over-utilize its own reserves, taxing the pancreas and the intestines to supply more enzymes than they are designed to provide.
A diet devoid of live enzymes is also devastating to our glandular system that is responsible for regulating everything from our blood sugar to our appetite. The thyroid, pituitary, and pancreas are thrown into turmoil by an enzyme deficient diet and this condition is the beginning of many diseases humanity constantly suffers.
There are no stoves in nature and no animals eating their foods cooked. In fact it is plain to see the effects of our cooked and processed foods in our house pets who eat the same deranged cooked foods we do. These animals get all the same diseases and suffer the same infirmities as we do. Animals in their natural environment do not suffer from obesity, heart disease, constipation, skin disorders, osteoporosis, asthma, etc. Dr. F.M. Pottenger did an extensive study on the effects of cooked food vs. raw food on 900 cats and found as conclusively as possible that uncooked foods kept the animals in the finest health.
How much of the food you ate today was cooked, sugared, salted, spiced, dyed, preserved and or heavily processed? How many unprocessed, raw fruits and vegetables did you eat? Your level of health will directly reflect this proportion of cooked processed foods to that of the unrefined, uncooked foods. The more raw fruits and vegetables (seeds and nuts) you eat the more fit and healthy you will be.
For the next two weeks try an experiment: Eat AT LEAST 70% of your foods raw and untainted…mostly fruits (any seed bearing food). I promise you will see an immediate increase in your energy levels, improved digestion and elimination and overall improvement of your well being. Of course you are free to try doing 100%. Any cooked foods should be free of any unnecessary additives, food dyes and preservatives. Remember CLOSEST TO THE VINE IS DIVINE.
If you need any proof other than your own empirical evidence just take a look at many of the indigenous people we have known throughout history and the devastating effect that heavily a processed, “civilized diet” has had on their well-being. The peoples of the Caribbean, Hawaiian and South Pacific Islands, not to mention the American Indians, had sunshine, fresh air and fruits of all kinds as the standard of their diet, providing them with all the fitness, health and vigor they desired. Then the salt, sugar, white flour, caffeine and alcohol of “civilization” appeared. Not to mention all the heavily processed “fast foods.”
There is a reason why there are over 300 different types of fruits on our plane. Instead of coffee, toast, cereals and danishes for breakfast try having some peaches, bananas, cantaloupe or just fresh (pasteurized juices are all cooked an acid forming) orange juice instead. For lunch why not have a big salad and or a fresh vegetable juice packed with live amino acids and whole  vitamins?
If convenience and time are an issue, there is nothing more convenient than having a bunch of bananas with you. Apples, oranges, grapes and peaches fit nicely in briefcases, handbags and lunch bags. Cantaloupes and honeydew melon come with their own built in bowls just slice and eat, nothing more convenient or time saving than that. You can also make your own trail mix out of your favorite (raw unsalted) nuts and (un-sulphured) raisins and dried fruits. The possibilities are endless and extremely rewarding. If you make these efforts to eat at least 70% raw foods for the next two weeks I guarantee the following: More energy, clearer skin, improved digestion, loss of excess pounds, clearer thinking, and an overall feeling of improved health. I also would strongly suggest eliminating all dairy and animal products throughout this experiment. Remember you can always go back.

Rude Health: Raw food the way to go

Sunday, February 25, 2007- By Ruth O’Connor

Dr Douglas Graham has been existing solely on uncooked food for 27 years. At his recent seminar in Dublin I expected to encounter a strange food obsessive but instead found a man who looked at least ten years younger than his 55 years – sinewy, lithe and bursting with energy. I was intrigued.

It seems incredible in the western world with all its convenience, processed and fast foods that somebody could deny themselves access to all of the above and live entirely on raw food, but that is what Graham has done.

And he’s not alone; a growing number of people, fed up with chronic ill health and general malaise, have decided that raw food is not only better for us, but is fundamental to our make-up as living organisms.

Raw-fooders are usually also vegan, denying themselves all meat and animal products.

Their diet consists mainly of raw, preferably organic, fruit and vegetables, (sprouted) nuts and seeds, grains, pulses and seaweeds.

The theory is that humans are biologically conditioned to thrive on uncooked food because cooking food damages, destroys and denatures the vitamins, minerals, enzymes and other body building blocks needed to maintain a healthy body and mind. The diet is low in fats and trans-fats and extremely high in vitamins, fibre and antioxidants. Those living on raw food report increased vitality, better health, improved skin, memory and concentration, and a slimmer silhouette.

Graham believes that the majority of us are food junkies, addicted to processed foods and refined sugars that are detrimental to our health. While most of us might have a problem with the idea of going totally raw, we are by now quite aware of the benefits of upping our intake of fruit and vegetables.

“All food surveys prove the same thing,” says Graham.

“Anything other than fruits and vegetables are less nutritious than fruits and vegetables.

“Any time you eat anything other than fruits and vegetables you’re eating food for some other reason than nutrition – you’re eating it for entertainment, for social value, to numb yourself or because you’re addicted to it.”

Demi Moore, Woody Harrelson and Alicia Silverstone are just some of the celebrities who have adopted a raw food diet. Raw food restaurants have begun popping up in Britain and the US and there’s even an International Festival of Raw Food Enthusiasts, called Raw World. One look at any raw food website presents albums of smiling, slim, healthy-looking characters. But is the raw food diet risk-free?

Opponents believe that the diet can lead to vitamin deficiency and lowered bone mass and may not be suitable for children or pregnant women.

To ensure they are getting their recommend vitamins, fats, minerals and carbohydrates a raw food practitioner must be extremely disciplined. Quite a lot of forward planning is also required, as many ingredients need to be soaked or sprouted in advance.

Lia de Lancey is a nutritional therapist and raw fooder.

In her practice, Health Creation, which she runs with Goisa Rzeszutek, de Lancey offers practical support and workshops on issues of health, nutrition and lifestyle. “Before I started this diet,” says de Lancey, “I was exhausted working part-time, four days a week.

“Every evening I would collapse on the sofa, suffering from chronic fatigue. Now I can work 13 or 14-hour days.”

De Lancey eats fruit for breakfast and lunch, and a salad for her evening meal, usually eating one type of food at a time until she is full. Her diet is called 811 – 80 per cent carbohydrates, 10 per cent fat, 10 per cent protein, but many other raw fooders eat a high fat diet consisting of a great deal of nuts and pulses, which de Lancey does not recommend.

De Lancey is keen to stress, however, that jumping into a raw food diet is not advisable without support and careful planning. “The message I give to most of my clients is that they need to increase their levels of raw fruit and vegetables.

“It’s easy to go through the day on processed foods, but it’s easy too to up your fruit and vegetable intake. If you’re looking to increase health and lose weight, this is a very good start.”

David Wolfe

So what does cooking really do to our food? First, it’s important to understand how our food is structured. Like our bodies, the food we eat contains a percentage of water. Water is the first element lost when a food is cooked. Unfortunately, water is also the element which assists our digestive processes.
Along with water loss, a food can lose up to 80% of its vitamins and minerals when cooked. But it’s when a food reaches a temperature of over 118 degrees that the most significant loss can occur; the loss of enzymes. Enzymes are critical to our bodies, being a part of every single physical, mental and physiological process.
Believe it or not, within each and every food on the planet is a perfect enzyme mix that will allow it to be completely digested once it’s been consumed. But when these enzymes are lost due to the cooking of food, our body has to make up for that loss by using its own enzymes in order that the food can be properly digested. The problem is that our bodies only have a certain number of these enzymes to spare. And so each time we consume a food whose enzymes have to be replaced with our own, our body’s own irreplaceable enzyme supply suffers.

Why would you drink Red Bull?

Well, I don’t know about you, but I never cared to drink the energy drink called Red Bull or any other energy drink on the market. Moreover, it’s good I followed my gut feeling. I just discovered this very popular drink may put you at risk of a heart attack, or even a stroke, in our young people. This is what Scott Willoughby, the lead researcher from the Cardiovascular Research Centre at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, related to the Australian newspaper.

This is a very popular drink that students, sports enthusiasts and sports athlete are drinking to get an edge. Red Bull is a highly caffeine-loaded beverage.
It was discovered that the Red Bull may cause the blood to become sticky, a precursor to cardiovascular problems such as stroke.

For your information, Red Bull is banned in Norway, Uruguay and Denmark because of health risk listed on its cans. In spite of this, the company last year sold 3.5 billion cans in 143 countries. It contains 80 mg of caffeine, about the same margin you might find in a brewed cup of coffee.

“Red Bull who gives you wings”, sponsors Formula One race cars and extreme sports events around the world. Its marketing department warns consumers not to drink more than two cans a day. This Austria-based company is “talking out of both sides of their mouths”.

For my money and health reasons, this Food Warrior would much rather obtain his energy from eight to nine hours of a good night sleep and eating good whole organic raw fruits and greens, along with fermented foods.

When I talk to people about what they eat and drink, I asked them, “Are you as healthy and fit as you should or want to be presently? Where do you see your Health in 10 years? What kinds of medication might have to be taken to suppress the symptoms?

I invite you to be more mindful and have a better understanding of what you eat and drink daily. Take charge of your body and be aware of the danger that professes to be your friend!  For your health, one apple, a day will keep the doctor away, but eating three apples a day will keep surgery away.

Try this great recipe if you want a safe, healthy alternative energy drink!

Two celery stalks,

One handful of fresh parsley,

One delicious apple corded,

Four carrots cut into pieces.

Place each ingredient into the juicer and drink to your heart’s content.

You will have a longer lasting energy burst, as one wouldn’t experience the “crash” that occurs after the caffeine wears off. So why drink some popular stimulant energy drink, which may impair proper blood vessel function and possibly a risk of blood clotting, heart attack or stroke!

Gifts to each other

What a way to start a day than to do a workout with my daughter!
The youngest, Maddie, home from college (University of Minnesota) decided that she wanted to work out with me doing up-hill sprints. Man, how awesome is that?
Now mind you, I was 56 years old, Maddie, was just 19 years old at the time, but I was up to the challenge! Maddie, did cross country/track during her High School days and did pretty well. As for myself, I had decided to get my act together back in 2006.

I decided to return to the park that my family and I used to enjoy when we were kids, I have wonderful fond memories. Do you remember those days when you were a kid? So going back with Maddie, was especially sweet!

As we drove to the near south side of town Maddie, joking around said it may have been big and steep when you’re a kid, but it just might be a mole hill now.  Well, we got there and guess what? It still was BIG and STEEP! We laughed and laughed until it hurt, it was so wonderful to be with her, doing this together.

We warmed up well enough to raise our body temperature and increase our blood flow to our muscles; we didn’t want to risk injuring ourselves! However, that being said, I do not believe in stretching before exercising, and have not for years. Have you ever seen animals stretch before they ran for a hunt?

So this was the routine.

#1. Walk up and down up hill once.
#2. Jog up and walk down once.
#3. Sprint up and walk down.
#4. Sprint up and walk down.
#5. Sprint up and walk down.
#6. Sprint up and walk down.

That was a great workout for any age! I managed to keep up pretty well; she was only a few yards ahead. The plan is to do these three times a week at various sites to keep it interesting.

Here’s Drinking to your Health!

I have a super recipe for you that I know you will enjoy. However, this time it is for your juicer. If you do not have a juicer, you still can use the same items in your blender. It will be a thicker drink, but just as tasty.

There are no set rules on how you should enjoy your fruits and leafy greens. Eat them the best way that fits your world.

Here is my latest recipe:

3 carrots

2 small apples

½ Cup of parsley or spinach

Cut the carrots in three inch pieces and place them in the juicer.

Slice and core both apples, and place in the juicer.

Add parsley or spinach.

Blend or juice, and you will have one of the best drinks ever.

The more familiar you become with raw foods and its benefits, the more you will begin to enjoy your new way of living!

Honor Your Mind, Body and Soul.
